The Association holds two major fly-ins each year and individual states organise smaller gatherings. Additionally the UK members attempt to hold a fly-in each year as well.

The major event is the Annual Convention, normally held around March each year. The AGMs for both the Airtourer Association and the Airtourer Co-operative are held at the Convention. The location of the Convention is decided by the Committee but is usually within 100NM of Wagga Wagga. History has proven that this is the best compromise between weather and accessibility constraints. Details of the next Convention are included on this page.

The President's Fly-in is held at a location decided by the incumbent President. Originally when Sonny Rankin was President it was held at his property Yarrandale, near West Wyalong, and was commonly known as the Yarrandale Fly-in. During the Tony Matthews years Parkes was the location but Hugh Knox injected some variety with fly-ins at Inverel North, Redcliffe and Cowra. In recent years we've been hosted by the Lore of Flight at Yarrawonga. See elsewhere on this page for the next President's Fly-in.

Smaller fly-ins and other social gatherings are held by state groups, Victoria being the most active, see elsewhere on this page for details of the next gathering.

2020 Airtourer Association Events and Activities

This is your invitation to the 2020 Airtourer Association Convention for 2020.

Firstly allow me to introduce you to the 42nd Convention of the association or the “Not the Elvis Tour” which will be held in Parkes and region 20-23 March 2020.

Parkes has been the location of numerous Presidents Fly In events, but the only Convention was the second in 1980, which for history buffs was in the last century. Reading the programme you will see that we are in fact baseing ourselves at Parkes and touring into the surrounding districts with a fly out planned to Condoblin on Saturday and a shorter bus trip to Forbes on Sunday which is really too close to make flying practical. Keep in mind that we will be entering a part of Australia that is in drought condition, and has been for some years.

Have you done your members survey?

Complete it online or download a printable version and return to us by either:

Winter Lunch 21st June 2020

Lunch at the Cosmo

  • A table has been booked from 1230.
  • Order and pay for your meal and drinks.

The Cosmopolitan is located in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges – one of the state’s most renowned growing districts. Exceptional produce – fresh foods, artisan products, wine, and beer – is in abundance. It seems only logical that Cosmopolitan philosophy is dedicated to sourcing the very best of it. With this focus, the region’s best is a constant source of inspiration. The menu reflects contemporary flavours, while allowing the integrity of the fresh produce to come through.

Sitting proud on the corner of High Street and Cosmo Road, The Cosmopolitan has long held a place in the heart of the Trentham community. Built circa 1866, its sweeping weatherboard verandas have witnessed countless local stories. The Cosmopolitan story took an unexpected turn when fire ravaged the iconic pub. 2009 marked a new beginning for The Cosmo with new owners driven by a vision of the pub’s glory days – of exceptional food, wine and the company of great friends – their plans to rebuild and restore The Cosmo became the talk of the town. The project was to be one of a labour of love and patience given the enormity of damage to the building.

President's Fly-in at Echuca 16-18 October 2020

Taking advantage of daylight saving and hopefully stable weather a little latter in the year we have moved the event from the traditional September. The Echuca Aero Club will be our hosts for the weekend, including their famous Sunday roast lunch.
A programme will be posted closer to the event. Keep an eye on the website.

End of Year Gathering Sunday 29th November 2020

Stand-by for full details but we are targeting the Bellarine Peninsula region seeking a location that combines flying in and good food.
